Call To Action: Make your website audience act!

I have learned the hard way that just by having visitors to your website in no way means that they will do what you want them to do. For most of us, we want to make money with our websites…we want more sales. Whatever it is that you desire your website audience to partake in, you need to guide them through the process on your website. This is what is commonly known as a call to action.

All websites should feature a clearly marked call to action. It doesn’t matter what the desired action happens to be. You must though prompt your audience to act when they get to your website. Your focus needs to be on catching your website visitor right from the start. Tons of research shows that a website viewing audience will leave (bounce rate) a website and move on to another if they can’t find the needed information in a mere seconds.

Here are a few ideas to consider for your website call to action button/link…

1. Make sure that your call to action is close to the top of the page.

Many of you may have heard that you should feature your most important website information “above the fold?” Yes, this is true. Almost 80% of website visitors won’t even get below the fold. Clearly feature your call to action above the fold of your website.

By having your call to action towards the top of your website, you are showing your audience where to act right from the start. You put into the mind of the visitor that although they may be browsing on your website, they always know where to access the main call to action.

2. Create a colorful button for your call to action.

This may go without saying, but I have seen too many websites have a weak call to action. If I have to struggle even for 3 seconds to find your website’s call to action, it is too long. Make your call to action button large and colorful. Use contrasting color to really catch your user’s attention.

Again, remember that bounce rate (the time a user spends on a website) is always a concern and should always be in forefront of your mind with your website. You need to capture your audience attention and you need to do it quickly. If your visitors don’t get what they are looking for right away, they will find other websites that will serve them the information that they are looking for.

3. Use enticing terminology in your calls to action.

Here are some “get to the point” words to consider using in your call to action:
Buy
Call
Email
Subscribe

The above words are great to use in your calls to action. They can generate thoughts of action in a website visitor and sometimes that may be what it takes to start a customer down your sales path.

It is imperative that you give your website audience a hand in achieving your goals. Whatever it is your desire your website audience to do, make their job easy by featuring a clearly marked call to action.
